Description

Why buy the case

3.75″ is the seam width — it runs down every panel joint on the wall, which means it is the width you burn through fastest on a ZIP System™ job.

12 rolls = 1,080 linear feet. Rough math on 4 ft panels with 8 ft vertical seams:

  • Roughly 135 panel seams per case
  • A typical single-story house needs 3 to 4 rolls for the field — one case covers about 3 houses
  • Framing a subdivision phase: this is the unit you want on the truck

Running out of seam tape mid-wall stops the crew. At 90 ft a roll, a case is the difference between taping the job and making a supply run.

ZIP System tape vs. DuPont butyl flashing tape

These are not interchangeable. Different adhesive chemistry, different system, different warranty.

ZIP System Tape DuPont Flashing Tape
Adhesive Acrylic, heat and UV resistant 100% butyl
Install temperature Down to 0°F Down to 25°F
Exposure period 180 days 120 days
Warranty 30-year system warranty with ZIP System™ sheathing 10-year with Tyvek® WRB
Roller required Yes No

If the wall is ZIP System™ sheathing, use ZIP System™ tape. Taping a ZIP wall with another manufacturer’s product is how a 30-year warranty stops being a 30-year warranty.

Installation — the part that causes callbacks

The roller is not optional. This is a pressure-sensitive tape. It must be rolled in with a ZIP System™ roller to reach maximum bond. Pressing it down by hand leaves a seam that looks sealed and is not — and on a case of 12 rolls, that is a lot of wall to do twice.

You also need:

  • A dry substrate, free of frost and debris
  • Ambient air and substrate above 0°F
  • The wall covered within 180 days

Do not use it as a substitute for self-adhering ice and water barrier in roofing applications.

Buying more than one case?

We accept Texas resale certificates for tax-exempt purchases.

Buying fewer than twelve?

If a full case is more than the job needs, we also sell this tape by the roll, including discounted stock with damaged packaging and factory-sealed product inside:

The wider widths, also by the case

If you are buying 3.75-inch by the case, price the wider ZIP flashing tapes at the same time — they cover the details this width has to be pieced together for:

Watch the lengths: the wider rolls are shorter. The 6-inch comes 75 ft, the 9 and 12 come 50 ft. Call us and we will quote any of them by the case.

Frequently asked questions

How many houses does a case cover?

About three single-story houses for field seams, at 3 to 4 rolls each. Openings and details use additional tape.

Can I use this on a wall that is not ZIP System sheathing?

The adhesive is engineered for the ZIP System™ overlay. On a Tyvek® or standard WRB wall, use a butyl flashing tape instead.

Do I really need the roller?

Yes. Huber specifies the tape must be rolled in to achieve maximum bond. It is the most common installation mistake with this product.

How cold can I install it?

Down to 0°F (-18°C), with the substrate dry and frost-free.

Is this a genuine sealed factory case?

Yes. New, sealed Huber factory case. Not repacked from loose rolls.

How fast does it ship?

We ship next business day from Cypress, TX.
