The door-and-slider size
Nine inches is not “the 6-inch roll, but wider.” It is the width you reach for when the opening is too deep or too wide for a 6-inch pan to do its job: patio sliders, entry doors, mulled units, garage openings, and any sill sitting on a 2×6 wall or behind continuous exterior insulation.
The reason is geometry. A sill pan has to cover the full depth of the rough sill and still have material left over to turn up onto the face of the wall and onto the jambs. On a 2×4 wall — 3½ in of framing plus ½ in of sheathing — a 6-inch roll covers the 4-inch sill and leaves you about 2 in of face lap. That works. On a 2×6 wall the sill depth is already 6 in before you add anything, so a 6-inch roll lands edge to edge with nothing left to turn up. Nine inches gives you the 6 in of sill plus roughly 3 in of usable lap.
Add an inch of exterior foam or a thicker sheathing and the same math pushes a 2×4 wall into 9-inch territory too.

If every opening on the job is a standard window in a 2×4 wall, buy the 6-inch and save the money. If the job has doors, sliders, or 2×6 walls, the 9-inch is the roll that actually finishes the corner.
Why FlexWrap NF and not flat tape
Doors and sliders are the worst place to trust a cut-and-lap corner. The pan under a slider sees standing water, foot traffic, and a threshold screwed down through it. FlexWrap NF stretches, so the corner comes out as one continuous piece with no seam at the exact point where a taped corner would have one — and DuPont states it needs no mechanical fasteners, even in flexed areas.
It also sticks where flat tape struggles: foam board, fiberboard, and CMU. Compared with standard 9″ Flashing Tape, it carries more than double the UV rating (270 days vs 120) and holds water at more than twice the pressure (718 Pa vs 300 Pa).

How far a roll goes on doors and sliders
Coverage is driven by how wide the opening is, not how deep — a deeper sill uses a wider roll, not more feet. Budget the run across the sill plus both corners turned up onto the jambs:
- 6 ft patio slider: about 8 to 9 ft of material — roughly 8 sliders per roll
- 3 ft entry door: about 5 to 6 ft — roughly 13 doors per roll
- 16 ft garage opening: about 18 ft — one roll covers four
A common way to buy: 9-inch for the door and slider pans, 6-inch for the window sills, and flat Flashing Tape on the jambs and heads where the run is straight. You pay for corner performance only where there are corners.
Installation notes
You need:
- A clean, dry, frost-free surface
- Primer over concrete, masonry, glass-mat exterior gypsum sheathing, and in cold or adverse weather
- Sill first, then jambs, then head — shingle-lapped so water sheds outward
- On door and slider pans, dry-fit the threshold before you commit the corner turn-up

Frequently asked questions
When do I actually need 9″ instead of 6″?
When the rough sill is deeper than about 4 in, or the opening is a door or slider. A 2×6 wall alone is enough reason: 6 inches of tape on 6 inches of sill leaves no lap. Standard windows in 2×4 walls do not need this width.
Can I use it on patio and entry doors?
Yes — door and slider pans are the main reason this width exists. The wider roll lets the corner turn up the jamb far enough to stay above the threshold.
Does it work over exterior continuous insulation?
Yes. FlexWrap NF bonds to foam board, fiberboard and CMU, which is exactly where flat tape gets unreliable. Add the insulation thickness to your sill depth when you pick the width.
Do I need fasteners in the corners?
No. DuPont states it does not require mechanical fasteners even in flexed corner areas.
Can I install it in cold weather?
Down to 25°F (-4°C) on a clean, frost-free surface. It performs best above 75°F, and cold or adverse conditions call for primer.
How long can it stay exposed?
Up to 270 days — nine months of UV. If the job stalls or the wall sits open through a season, that rating alone can justify the width.
Can I use it for through-wall flashing?
No. DuPont specifically excludes that application.
