What it is
DuPont™ Tyvek® Tape is the seam tape engineered for DuPont Weatherization Systems. It seals the seams of Tyvek® water-resistive barrier so the wall gets a continuous barrier against air and water infiltration — which is the whole point of installing a WRB in the first place.
The adhesive is formulated specifically to bond to Tyvek®. That is not marketing: generic housewrap tape and duct tape release from Tyvek® over time, especially after heat cycling on a south wall. A seam that lifts is an air leak, and an air leak is the thing you paid to prevent.
Why this is the part not to cheap out on
Run the numbers on a house:
- Tyvek® housewrap for the walls: hundreds of dollars
- Flashing tape for the openings: hundreds more
- Seam tape: $14.99 a roll
If the seam tape fails, the assembly fails, and no one inspecting the wall later will blame the tape. Buy the one DuPont specifies.

Where it fits in the system
Seam tape handles the flat seams between sheets of wrap. It is not a substitute for flashing at openings — windows and doors need proper flashing tape:
- DuPont Flashing Tape 4″ — sheathing seams, penetrations, trim details
- DuPont Flashing Tape 6″ — window jambs and heads
- DuPont Flashing Tape 9″ — window sills
- DuPont FlexWrap NF 6″ — sill pan corners, seamless
How many rolls you need
164 ft per roll. On a typical single-family house, wrap seams run roughly 200 to 300 linear feet depending on how many sheets and how the courses lap:
- Plan on 2 rolls for an average house
- Add one more if you are taping around penetrations and the bottom edge
At this price, carrying a spare beats stopping the crew.

Is this genuine DuPont?
Yes. New, factory-sealed product in original DuPont packaging. Not generic, not repackaged.
Can I use regular housewrap tape or duct tape instead?
You can, and it is the most common reason seams open up later. The adhesive on this tape is engineered for Tyvek® specifically. Generic tapes release from it over time and after heat cycling.
Does using this tape matter for the DuPont warranty?
DuPont 10-Year Limited Warranties apply when the system is installed as specified, which includes sealing seams with DuPont™ Tyvek® Tape.
Can I use it to flash a window?
No. Seam tape is for flat seams in the wrap. Openings need flashing tape — see the links above.
